In Romans chapter 6 we are confronted with the second major "cornerstone" of the book of Romans: our godly sanctified position we now have "in Christ." Once a person has been justified unto eternal life by grace through faith in Christ alone, without any works of any kind, the next major issue for that believer is to get an understanding and appreciation for the core elements of what their Christian life will be from now on. The first thing God our Father wants us to know is that through baptism into Christ we have been made "dead to sin" and "alive unto God." Romans 6 also teaches us the ability to "reckon" our identity "in Christ" to be so. God confronts us with the fact that "we are not under the law, but under grace" in our sanctified lives. Needless to say, Romans chapter 6 is critical to build a foundation for properly understanding God's word.
